Handmade quilts

Handmade quiltsIt’s hard to say exactly what it is that sets handmade quilts apart from those made by machine – The time spent? The care? The uniqueness? – but it is evident to those who take a close look that there is something special about handmade quilts. No matter the method use, a handmade touch improves a quilt. There are a few different methods to hand quilting.

One of the popular methods is called cross hatch. When implementing this method, you start in the middle and then work your way out. It is very important when employing this method that you be very meticulous, because making a mistake and not noticing it until later could cause a lot of problems.

The other popular method that you could do is called stippling. In a nutshell, this kind of stitching involves the quilter making smooth curves that do not meet at any place. They also do not cross.

Perhaps the thing that makes quilts created by hand so endearing to people is the fact that they do have some imperfections. That’s not to say that you should try to mess up when working on the quilt, but id there is a small mistake, all it really does is add to the quaint charm of the item.

So, if you have worked on handmade quilts before, you can continue to do so with confidence that you are practicing a craft that is endearing and popular. If you have not ever created one of these, there is no better time to start than right now.
