A necktie quilt is a great way to showcase neckties. Patterns for this type of quilt are readily available. You can salvage old worn out or discarded ties from a loved one. Using several old ties will create a lovely quilt of remembrance. Such quilts have become cherished tokens of former groups such as school leaders, clergy and alumni groups.
The quilt made from neckties can be used in many patterns. Using the ties as an appliqué is one option. Others include a Dresden plate or a design with sun with rays made from neckties. If you have many ties to work with, you can use many other patterns that make use of long strips of fabric.
The necktie quilt emits a scrappy quilt quality, in that the neckties are mostly random colors and patterns. This type of quilting is popular among quilters as it mimics the pioneer quilts that were made from cast off fabrics. When you create a necktie quilt, you will remember those who have worn the neckties you use and create a quilt to remember the relationships that these neckties represent.
