Quilt blocks
Most
pieced quilts are an arranged series of quilt blocks sewn together in
a specified pattern. These blocks are usually made from a formal pattern
that uses small geometric shapes of fabric to create a larger pattern
or picture. A quilter sews several quilt blocks and then sews the quilt
blocks together.
There are several ways to obtain patterns for quilt blocks. Experienced
and novice quilters alike consider the following when searching for
quilt block designs:
• Quilting classes – these are often offered at retail
fabric classes or part of community education courses.
• Quilting groups may join together to quilt one another’s
quilts and also share quilt block patterns and tips on quilting.
• Many Internet sites have quilt block patterns, some of which
are free and some of which are for sale. There are literally thousands
of these quilt block patterns on the Internet.
Making a quilt requires making several quilt blocks, arranging them
and sewing them together. Quilt blocks can also be used in pillow shams,
window treatments and wall hangings. The world of quilting has become
a very exciting atmosphere where young and old share their creations
and talents.
