Quilting supplies
Years
ago, quilting supplies were limited to scissors, thimbles, thread, needles,
pins and fabrics. Today these supplies are just the bare bones minimum
when it comes to supplies useful in quilting. A beginning quilter should
consider the following quilting gear as they begin learning this art:
• A rotary cutter is a quilter’s best friend. This really
simplifies the cutting process.
• Quilting rulers make it easy to use the aforementioned rotary
cutter to get a smooth, straight edge quickly. These are also essential
in measuring your fabric pieces with exactness.
• Cutting mat enables you to use both the rotary cutter and quilting
rulers anywhere without damaging tables and floors.
• Batting is the padding that goes between the quilt top and the
quilt back. This adds the poof, fluff and comfort of the quilt, in addition
to adding weight and warmth.
• Quilting frames allow you to stretch the quilt taught so that
you can sew the quilt together.
• Fabric is, of course, the number one quilting material. Scissors,
pins, needles, thimbles and thread are all still basic and necessary
to create a quilt.
You can find quilting supplies at all fabric stores and on retail Internet
sites. Many accessories and gadgets have been developed to make quilting
simpler, faster and more comfortable. As you continue to quilt, you
will find which supplies best aid you in your creative process.
